A watch that fits well looks better and feels better. Size is more than one number, so here is what to check before you buy.

Step 1: Measure your wrist

Wrap a soft measuring tape (or a strip of paper you then measure with a ruler) around your wrist just above the wrist bone, where you would wear a watch. Note the circumference in centimetres.

Step 2: Understand case diameter

Case diameter is the width of the watch case, excluding the crown, and is listed on every product page in millimetres. As a general starting point:

  • Wrists around 14–16 cm: cases of roughly 34–39 mm usually look balanced.
  • Wrists around 16–18 cm: cases of roughly 38–42 mm are a comfortable middle ground.
  • Wrists above 18 cm: cases of 42 mm and up can suit well.

These are guidelines, not rules — personal style matters. Many women's watches range from about 26 to 36 mm, while some prefer bolder, larger cases.

Step 3: Check lug-to-lug length

The distance from the top lugs to the bottom lugs often matters more than diameter. If the lugs extend past the edges of your wrist, the watch will look too big and may not sit flat.

Step 4: Consider thickness

Thin watches slip under shirt cuffs easily and suit formal wear. Thicker cases — common in chronographs, divers and automatics — feel sportier and have more wrist presence.

Step 5: Think about the strap

  • Bracelets can be adjusted by adding or removing links; some include micro-adjustment holes.
  • Leather and silicone straps fit a range of wrist sizes through their holes.
  • Mesh bracelets often use a sliding clasp for precise sizing.

Quick tips

  • Larger dials with thin bezels look bigger than the number suggests.
  • Light dial colours tend to look larger than dark ones.
  • If you are between sizes, choose based on how you'll wear it — smaller for formal, larger for casual.

Browse men's watches and women's watches and use the case size on each product page to compare.
